good morning everyone
- 04-17-2021 04:11
Good Morning
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:12
Yes can see the bright
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:12
Yes we can see that better
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:13
Great tips
- 04-17-2021 04:14
Thank you - the simplicity of the system allows your creativity to just put lighting wherever you need it.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:16
Besides moving the fiber in or out of the box, or changing the fiber size....is there any other way to dim the light?
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:17
or speak to in the video in case the other 13 people are interested.
- 04-17-2021 04:18
yes - see the video - we have an RF controller to dim the box.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:19
Can you separate the diming within 1 box? Or just buy another box and remember how the fibers are setup?
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:20
Yes we can see
- 04-17-2021 04:20
The controller works on the entire box. If you wanted multiple separate options controlled you would need multiple boxes.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:21
For the Red Light district!
- 04-17-2021 04:21
Depends on what your layout is.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:22
LOL
- 04-17-2021 04:22
It's only limited by your imagination.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:23
Yes a slight delay.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:23
But it does help in answerng the quesiton
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:23
Tx
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:24
No lighting on my layout. Post war O scale.
xae736 - 04-17-2021 04:25
Does that plug into a regular power outlet?
- 04-17-2021 04:25
We have O Scale street lights and larger fiber optic - up to 2mm.
- 04-17-2021 04:25
Yes - Plugs into regualar outlet.
- 04-17-2021 04:27
For overseas customers our plugs can run on 240 v as well
vntrains - 04-17-2021 04:29
what do you use as a light source?
- 04-17-2021 04:29
Our light source is an LED
vntrains - 04-17-2021 04:31
dddoes the lamplighter get warm
- 04-17-2021 04:32
It does get warm to the touch, but not hot.
George_kc6uvm - 04-17-2021 04:40
I missed the introduction. Is the lighting accomplished by running fiber optics or a RF broadcast transmission?
- 04-17-2021 04:42
The light source is a high intensity LED and special optics to focus the light in the Lamplighter box. The light is carried to the display by the fiber optics.
- 04-17-2021 04:43
The RF Controller can change the light output from the box.
Randy - 04-17-2021 04:47
Do you need to direct the end in the direction you need to light. Example: Ceiling light - should it be directed down or can it be pointed up and it will light the entire room.
- 04-17-2021 04:48
Yes and no - It does shine light out the end - but can diffuse. If you put aluminum foil on the ceiling of the building / room - it will reflect back down and illuminate the area.
ChipEnglish - 04-17-2021 04:56
If I have existing HO lights from Marklin can I run the line up to replace the wires and light or do I need to start with lights with no wires or bulbs?
George_kc6uvm - 04-17-2021 04:57
To minimize unwanted lighting, are you able to sell a fiber with a dark coating?
- 04-17-2021 04:59
Chip - Yes, you can retrofit existing lights - If you are able to remove the existing wiring and bulbs then you can fish the fiber optic through the fixture
- 04-17-2021 05:00
It just depends on the size of the wire that you are removing.
Randy - 04-17-2021 05:03
That would work great for simulating flouresent lighting in a building!
- 04-17-2021 05:03
Absolutely!

ChipEnglish - 04-17-2021 05:10
I have relatively large layout. Is there an efficient way to run the line (eg use a large line to start and then split it or do you have to run individual strands from the lighting unit to each light?
- 04-17-2021 05:14
It is most efficient to run directly from the Lamplighter box. The fibers can be split, but it is much more technically challenging and you don't get as good lighting.
George_kc6uvm - 04-17-2021 05:18
Changing light colors? Can this be done in the lighting unit or with filters?
Perry - 04-17-2021 05:19
How Long can I run the fiber? I have an around the wall layout in a 10 X 10 room. If I centally Locate your product I could potentially have a 20 foot run. What would you suggest.
George_kc6uvm - 04-17-2021 05:21
What if I want to electronically change the light colors?
Paul - 04-17-2021 05:23
:how many wires can go into the module
- 04-17-2021 05:24
There is no issue with running 20 feet or more. We have put the end of a many hundred foot long spool of fiber into the lamplighter and had lots of light at the end.
ChipEnglish - 04-17-2021 05:24
What about timers or other functions to recognize when it is “day” or “night” for my layout? Or is is for now simply on or off. I love this just wondering how far this goes. Thanks so much for presenting.
- 04-17-2021 05:24
The LED that we use is a single white LED. The RGB LED's are not bright enough to transmit the light.
Perry - 04-17-2021 05:31
For N scale what size fiber
- 04-17-2021 05:34
Lamplighter 1, 16-1.5 mm or 26 -1mm fibers. The Lamplighter 2 holds about twice as many as the Lamplighter 1.
- 04-17-2021 05:35
For right now, we do not have any timers for day/night recognition. If you had a timer that switched the power on/off you could plug the lamplighters into it.
- 04-17-2021 05:36
For N scale, 1 mm fiber is best, but it depends on what you are lighting. We sell .5 to 2 mm fiber optic cable.
Canuck Rails - 04-17-2021 06:06
If I was lighting N scale modular/modules would the lamplighter starter kit be the ideal? I am considering 3 modules at the moment with the line running alongside including a river (road) module. A gas station with a separate shed module and a third module with an industrial (unknown type) at the moment...
- 04-17-2021 06:25
A starter kit is a great way to get into into using fiber optics. It does not have any of the street lights, but those can be added. With the fiber optics in the kit, you can start lighting without wiring quickly.

Pip399@gmail.com - 04-17-2021 06:46
Can the lamplighter be powered by a acc train transformer and Lionel SC2 to turn this on and off.
- 04-17-2021 06:47
Thanks - We have a number of people who have used the lamplighter and fiber optics to light other non-train related items.
- 04-17-2021 06:51
Pip - the lamplighter needs DC input.
Joe F - 04-17-2021 06:51

Bring on the questions
Paul - 04-17-2021 07:36
Hi guys, I am fascinated by this, wiring has driven me crazy. I'm thinking of re-lighting my entire layout and pulling out all the crazy wiring...To start off I need to light about 30+ buildings, would I need the 2S to fit that many cables in one unit? As a second round I would do all the street lamps separately and use it's own box
- 04-17-2021 07:38
Is this HO?
Paul - 04-17-2021 07:38
Thanks!
Paul - 04-17-2021 07:38
N scale
Paul - 04-17-2021 07:43
Thanks am building a basket now, will probably order this weekend...
sseliquini - 04-17-2021 07:50
What size fiber are you using for the home?
Kent Larson - 04-17-2021 07:51
Is it possible to purchase lamps with out fiber inserted? "O" Scale fiber runs can be six or more feet long. It might be easier to cut fiber to length. Splices do reduce light intensity.
- 04-17-2021 07:54
1.5 mm fiber for the house
- 04-17-2021 07:57
Custom lights can be made with longer fiber if needed - the fiber optic is locked inside the fixture as created.
- 04-17-2021 07:57
we also have a connector kit.
Paul - 04-17-2021 07:58
The other question, do you have any images of the underside of a layout with how the lighting is all run and bundled and organized?
Paul - 04-17-2021 08:01
ie What happens if bundles are taped?
- 04-17-2021 08:01
Paul - if you email us at Michael@dwarvin.com we can send you some pictures

Great product. I bought the Lamplighter 2 Starter kit and will be looking forward to using it in my O-scale Christmas layout that is under our tree. The last session you showed a tree with many lights in it. Can you describe how this was done? Thank you.
- 04-17-2021 08:41
Thanks Paul - We will bring that diorama out next and make sure to talk about the lights in the tree.
ICG Paul - 04-17-2021 08:42
Thank you. Great presentation.
- 04-17-2021 08:43
Thanks - I'll pass it along to my boys.
Dg - 04-17-2021 08:43
My layout is made with foam boards on a table. How would l best use your product?
Peter - 04-17-2021 08:44
how many fiber optics can you put in a lamplighter?
- 04-17-2021 08:46
Lamplighter 1, 16-1.5 mm or 26 -1mm fibers. The Lamplighter 2 holds about twice as many as the Lamplighter 1.
Peter - 04-17-2021 08:51
How do you determine which size fiber optic to use? 1.5 or .5???
Peter - 04-17-2021 08:54
Does it matter how far you run the fiber optic?
- 04-17-2021 08:56
1.5 is great for HO buildings. 1.0 for N scale, 0.75 for N lamps, 0.5mm for trees, tail lights in cars etc.
ICG Paul - 04-17-2021 08:57
Thank you for answering my question about the tree lights.
- 04-17-2021 08:58
The fiber holds the light in it - so you can easily run 8ft. If you want to you can run 3-ft but that comes difficult to handle.
John - 04-17-2021 09:00
Can you envision some type of set up where this could be used to create a fireworks display?
- 04-17-2021 09:01
Ho Ho Ho - If you go to our blog site on Dwarvin.com you can see a fireworks display. This is a custom product.!!
John - 04-17-2021 09:02
Great, thanks!
Peter - 04-17-2021 09:04
will you have to eventually replace the light source?
- 04-17-2021 09:05
The light source is a high powered LED. We have some in use for over 10 years and have sold many and have not had any failures.

ICG Paul - 04-17-2021 09:40
Railroads hav ehot box detectors to check train truck bearings burning. The cover emulates that.
- 04-17-2021 09:40
Ah - Got it.
joepetrick5@yahoo.com - 04-17-2021 09:43

Thanks for the responses. How about splitters for the ends to provide multiple remote end placements fed by a single fiber.
- 04-17-2021 10:07
We don't have a specific product for that, but you can use a larger fiber into a tubing "coupling" and have smaller fibers coming out of it. You could use a coupling kit to get the coupling fluid to help this.
- 04-17-2021 10:08
It does induce light loss so its better for smaller runs - lower light needs
Chris - 04-17-2021 10:08

How can you control it with DCC
Chris - 04-17-2021 10:28
What is the colour temperature of the output please?
- 04-17-2021 10:29
Joe- You would have to have a second unit. Flashing can be accomplished through the RF Controller or a Lamplighter Flasher.
- 04-17-2021 10:31
3500 K for the Lamplighter 1 and 2 and the 2S is closer to 4200K
